A former substitute teacher in Bergen County accused last year of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in his class has been sentenced to five years of probation and will not have to register as a sex offender after reaching a plea deal, officials said Tuesday.

Ronald Kraus, 43, was charged in 2017 with two counts of sexual assault and one count of child endangerment.
NorthJersey.com reported Kraus told police the child jumped on his lap and gyrated, causing him to become aroused.
Kraus told police he cupped the child’s buttocks in mid-air when she jumped, and may have also done so when he picked her up, according to the report.
Kraus admitted Friday to the child endangerment charge in a plea deal that called for the more serious assault charges to be dropped.
Kraus, who taught at schools in Teaneck and Mahwah, must surrender his teaching license and undergo sex-specific counseling, officials said.
The child was allegedly assaulted in 2017 at Lowell Elementary School in Teaneck, where Kraus was substitute teaching, authorities said.
The girl’s parents filed a complaint with the Teaneck Police Department on Feb. 22, 2017, about five days after the incident.
He was arrested and charged after speaking with investigators in Paramus, authorities said.
